One of the classic walks of the world, this trek offers the visitor a complete cross-section of central Nepal and its wondrous diversity of culture, topography, and flora & fauna. Starting in the foothills near Pokhara, we explore the beautiful Marsyangdi & Manang valleys and then cross the Thorung La pass to the sacred shrine of Muktinath. From here on we follow the Kali Gandaki along the world’s deepest river gorge back to Pokhara, staying in pleasant local lodges and savoring their traditional cuisine. We climb the vantage point of Poon Hill from where it’s easy to appreciate the vast circle around the Annapurna Himal we have nearly completed. As we trek across diverse ecological zones, the views of the Central Nepal Himalaya keep changing. One of the highlights of our trek are the side-trips and detours that add an extra dimension to the usual route.

Trip Itinerary

Day 1 Arrive Kathmandu. Orientation.
Day 2 Drive Kathmandu (1,300m / 4,260′) to Besisahar (800m / 2,620′). Trek to Bhulbule (840m / 2,760′).
Days 3-6 Trek north up the Marsyangdi valley to Chame (2,710m / 8,890′), with overnight stops at Ghermuphant (1,140m / 3,740′), Tal (1,700m / 5,580′), and Bagarchhap (2,160m / 7,090′).
Days 7-9 Trek westward through the Manang valley to Manang (3,540m / 11,611′), stopping at Pisang (3,185m / 10,450′). Acclimatization day at Manang: excursion to Ice Lake (4,620m / 15,150′).
Days 10-12 Trek across the Thorung La (5,416m / 17,760′) to Muktinath (3,800m / 12,460′), with overnights at Letdar (4,230m / 13,870′) and Thorung High Camp (4,800m / 15,740′).
Days 13-14 Visit the shrine at Muktinath. Descend along the Jhong Khola valley to Jharkot (3,500m / 11,480′) and on to Kagbeni (2,840m / 9,320′), visiting Jhong (3,580m / 11,740′) en route.
Days 15-16 Trek down the Thak Khola Canyon to Marpha (2,680m / 8,790′). Day excursion via Dhumba Tal (Lake) (2,830m / 9,280′) to Thini (2,860m / 9,380′).
Days 17-19 Trek down the Kali Gandaki gorge to Tatopani (1,190m / 3,900?) via Titi Lake (2,670m / 8,760?) and Ghasa (2,000m / 6,560?).
Days 20-21 Leave the Kali Gandaki to head up to Ghorepani (2,870m / 9,410?).
Days 22-23 Early morning climb Poon Hill (3,210m / 10,530′). Trek to Ghandruk (2,150m / 7,050′) via Tadapani (2,710m / 8,890′).
Days 24-25 Trek across the Modi Khola gorge to Tolka (1,790m / 5,870′). Finish trek at Phedi (1,130m / 3,710′). Drive to Pokhara (884m / 2,900′).
Day 26 At leisure in Pokhara.
Day 27 Drive to Kathmandu.
Day 28 Depart for onward destination.
